Why are Missouri deer getting smaller?
I have been deer hunting for awhile now, and seems to me that the body of the deer or getting smaller, and the bucks antlers or not growing to record sizes. This is my thought’s on what is going now. I think with the increase of the deer population and the fact that alot of hunters are only after the big bucks that the doe population is growing so big and that young bucks are not being able to move out of the area they grow up in so they are breding with there mom and sisters.
So if the MDC would passed a rule for the whole state of Missouri banning the killing of bucks for 2 to 3 years that would give the small bucks a chance to grow big, and it would also let hunters thin out a growing doe heard. Give more room for young bucks to spread out and breed. Plus in 2 to 3 years the there would be more bigger bucks to harvest, and hopfully hunters would not kill smaller bucks. I feel that if the MDC would make this bold move everyone, and the deer herd would gain from this. As all ways with any post on this site feel free to leave comments.

You know what i think you have a point. I live in south carolina and i have noticed it also i could go without shooting a buck for 2 or 3 years if it was to better the hunting for my kids and grandkids in the future. But also i think that as soon as the bucks are legal agian everyone is going to get into hunting agian and wipe out the whole population in a couple seasons. But i wouldnt mind it so maybe they would switch to squirrle hunting and come and kill all of the damn squirrles off my land little buggers. I like them to eat but that is all they are good for i went hunting for an hour or so and shot 14 that is how many there is out here.
